Thief meets match

TWO car dealers chose the wrong buyer at the weekend, when they tried to sell a stolen car to an off-duty policewoman.

Insp Nompumelelo Sampson was in her home on Saturday when she saw the two strangers outside in the street.

She walked up to them and was offered the light blue Ford Meteor for R3 500.

"Things just did not feel right," Insp Sampson said."So I asked my neighbour to keep them busy with a potential offer to buy the car.

"I did not phone the police station - I did not want to be put on hold as this needed quick action."

So she drove to the Mbekweni police station where Insp George Lodewyk en Sgt Johan Solomons grabbed a radio and accompanied her to the scene.

"We radioed the car licence plate and found that it had been stolen in Durbanville. The owner did not even know that yet.

"Back on the scene the men were very surprised to see us surrounding them."

The two suspects were arrested and locked up..

"I had to drive the car back to the station," Insp Sampson said.

"It was rather a nice little car."
