been part of the voluntary Learning for Life Leadership Programme run by the School.
The Programme engages grade sevens in completing a set of four criteria.
Each participant must set and achieve a goal in a physical activity or sport; organise an event or happening; learn a new skill and become involved in a self-initiated service programme.
Jessica and Megan have spent in excess of 15 weekend hours in the Oncology Unit assisting with exercising, feeding and entertaining the young patients.
They were overwhelmed when AstraZeneca, a major pharmaceutical company, offered a donation of R10 000 towards the Christmas Party they were planning for the patients.
It was decided that this donation should be made in its entirety to the project to re-develop and enlarge the Oncology Unit at Red Cross. The party was then sponsored by Megan and Jessica's parents.
Jessica and Megan have learned so much from their journey with the Oncology Unit and from being part of the Bridge House Learning for Life Leadership Programme.
"The project has really opened our eyes and made us realise how fortunate we are. We both feel that we have grown tremendously and have been taught valuable life lessons for our futures." |
