Alexandra wide awake

WIDE-AWAKE, that is Alexandra Böhmer (13), a grade 7 learner of the La Rochelle Primary School, who was placed first in the national World Knowledge Olympiad for primary schools.

She is a keen student, musician and sportswoman with a wide general knowledge which she ascribes to the fact that she reads newspapers every day.

"The radio is always on in the house as well, so I often discuss the news items with my mother.

"My mom is an artist and my dad is a businessman in the wine trade, so I learn a lot from them," says the teenager with the lively interest in world events.

Besides excelling at school, Alexandra plays hockey, swims, does ballet and plays the piano. She is also an avid reader of fiction.

The family holidays are planned around interesting places, events and subjects. One day she would like to become an architect or perhaps a director in the radio or film industry.
