Saracens help school

wsaraceTHE next best thing to playing rugby for a club in England must certainly be to jog onto the field in a jersey formerly worn by a member of Francois Pienaar's Saracens team.

The first rugby team of New Orleans Secondary in Paarl East could not hide their enthusiasm when the boxes with second-hand rugby jerseys were unpacked at their school last week.

The socks and boots are still en route to South Africa.

The gift was initiated by Wellington sport promotor Patrick Ross and chairman of the association of school governing bodies, Lloyd Fortuin.

"Ross enquired about a donation of sports equipment for emerging sportspersons from Francois Pienaar's Saracens club in England," Fortuin said.

"It was agreed, and we identified the school in our area with good rugby potential," said Fortuin.

"We would like Pienaar to attend a formal meeting in Paarl to explore the possibility of New Orleans twinning with the Saracens club.

"Who knows, Pienaar might even help with training, and our boys could very well spend time in England."

Winterskool vir matrieks

DIE jaarlikse winterskool in wiskunde, natuur- en skeikunde en rekeningkunde vir matrikulante word weer vanjaar deur die Mathcard-sentrum by Hoërskool Gimnasium in die Paarl aangebied.

Dit vind gedurende die laaste week van die wintervakansie, van 15 tot 18 Julie, plaas.

Alle skole se matrikulante is baie welkom. Koshuisakkommodasie sal beskikbaar wees.

Brosjures met die volledige program en inskrywingsvorm is beskikbaar by Hoërskool Gimnasium, Mauritz Uys Uitrusters, Wynland Apteek (Noorder-Paarl), Waltons en Wellington Toerismeburo.
