THE Belgian Consul opened the third exhibition of the Flemish School of Art which is still on view in the Franschhoek town hall today.

Over the last five years the Belgian Government has seconded 60 teachers and social workers to Franschhoek. Every year at least ten teachers have taught art, music and physical education in the four primary schools in Franschhoek.

The teaching of art has become known as the Franschhoek Flemish School of Art.

This exhibition contains 900 self-portraits and sculptures made by the children of Wemmershoek, Groendal, West Eind and Dalabuhle primary schools.

The exhibition goes to Dilbeek, Belgium, a town which is twinned with Franschhoek.

Organised by the Franschhoek Trust and the Franschhoek Live Craft Centre, both non profit organisations raising funds for the benefit of the town and community, there will be a large number of stall-holders and participating events.

The country fair will showcase local produce like cheese, trout, wines, preserves, flowers, fruit, vegetables and herbs.

Other attractions will include art, sculpture, toys, pottery, fortune telling, flower arrangements and flower competitions, with pony rides, raffles, and minstrels.

The fair will take place from 09:00 to 17:00 on both days. Admission fee is R10 for adults and children free.

There is still room for a few stall-holders, preferably craft related in the street.
