Mark Banks shakes up Barnyard

[ Top ]

PATRONS at the Barnyard Theatre at Bridge House are in for a treat when Mark Banks shakes up a cocktail of satire and comedy in an exclusive television special which will be screened on SABC 2.

South Africa's foremost comedian will be serving up his finest on 10, 11 and 12 December.

Banks started his career as a solo satirical review artist in the early 80s. His first show We're Not On Top - We're Inside, brought him to the comedy stage forefront as an incisive satirical comedy voice in South Africa.

Over the past two decades Banks has never been at a loss for words in response to current events, whether it be social, political, environmental or everyday issues.

When asked about the show's content, Banks said: "We have our own unique comedy that allows us to be creative and more importantly, as South Africans we have the ability to laugh at ourselves, so it should not be taken offensively."

There will be a special matinée performance on Sunday at 12:30 for 14:00. Tickets available from Robyn Watkins, tel/fax 874-1505 or 082-371-3267.

Special Day for Friesian horses

[ Top ]

SOME of the best and most beautiful imported Friesian horses in the country can be seen at an information day to be held on December 11 at the Friesch Paarden Centrum of Pierre and Nella Veldhoen in Agter Paarl.

According to Pierre, breeders in the Western Cape want to re-establish this breed as part of the draught horse industry in this part of the country - known for decades as the "heartland" for draught horses.

The Friesian horse is the only purebred horse native to the Netherlands and is experiencing a boom in especially the northern provinces of South Africa.

With its black colour, long mane and full tail, the Friesian is recognisable in an instant. The horse is being successfully employed in various equestrian sports and at the information day they will be shown in harness as well as dressage.

Apart from the Veldhoen's mares and foals, the horses of Johnny Bongers of Kraaifontein, as well as the well-known imported stallions Eibert (of Piet Botha from Lichtenburg) and Jildert (of Dr Bennie Smit of Piketberg) will be shown.

For more information, contact Pierre on 072-494-0026 or 869-8484 or George Smuts on 082-228-1876.
