LINDHORST WINES, the private red wine boutique cellar in Paarl, receiving rave reviews all round, is now open for tasting and
purchases every day from 10:00 to 17:00.
This tiny but powerful winery that sells direct to all its customers worldwide, recently won a gold medal in the prestigious
Decanter World Wine Awards 2004 in the UK, while consultant winemaker Cathy Marshall is feted for her champion Shiraz.
The award-winning Shiraz is popular with fans of the varietal, along with the flagship Statement blend, dominated by Shiraz.
The Pinotage is also a superb ambassador for this indigenous Cape cultivar and can also be enjoyed in the comfortable tasting room.
The blending of the signature wine from Lindhorst Wines, the boutique operation in Paarl that sells direct to its international
customer base, has taken on a new dimension.
In something of a departure from the traditional taste trial-and-error method, where individual components can be adapted to adjust
for the impact of vintage conditions, Lindhorst has used a process of deconstruction as a precursor to creating its 2003 Shiraz-dominated wine Statement.
After making an initial barrel selection of nearly 20 individually vinified Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon wines, consultant
winemaker Cathy Marshall of the highly acclaimed Barefoot Wine Company, and owners Mark and Belinda Lindhorst, invited a group of seasoned palates to help determine the final components for the blend.
The team included a viticulturist, Cathy's assistant winemaker Ernie Wilken, a wine and food journalist, as well as a specialist
retailer, agents representing a range of specialist brands and a sommelier. The purpose was to include both technical expertise and a trade perspective on consumer preferences.
