This production, an "intoxicating and infectious musical mampoer", is a compilation of the most requested items taken from his various shows during the past few years.

Laughs and gasps abound as Rory takes the audience on a magical, musical journey which races from the romantic to ridiculous, covers a myriad of styles from Afrikaans liedjies to Abba, from La Boheme to Lloyd Webber, from Bizet to Brel, and lots in between that Puccini never dreamed of!

Wickedly amusing satire at Baxter theatre

[ Top ]

THE Durban writer/actor/director Greig Coetzee has written a "wickedly amusing satire" - Happy Natives - which wowed international critics and audiences at last year's Edinburgh Festival, and is currently on a nation-wide tour which kicked off at the National Arts Festival in June.

The play can be seen at the Sanlam Studio Baxter Theatre until 2 August.

Coetzee is joined by the well-known Sello Sebotsane in this absorbing snapshot of modern South African life.

The pair play a host of characters - a total of eight or so roles, including the main characters, friends "Kenneth" (Coetzee) and "Mto" (Sebotsane) as well as a woman TV project manager, a domestic worker, a patronising gun-toting ex-border guard and a cultural minister.

Happy Natives is presented by B&R Productions in association with Soho Theatre in London and is directed by Christine Harmar-Brown. For more information, phone 680-3971.

Drama by High Street

[ Top ]

THE new Cape Town Concert Series will open in the Baxter Concert Hall on Saturday 19 July with a performance by Genova & Dimitrov, the dazzling Bulgarian piano virtuosi, considered widely to be one of the world's best piano duos.

Aglika Genova and Liuben Dimitrov launched their hugely successful career by winning the Bellini International Piano Duo Competition in Italy in 1995. The next year they followed this up by taking First Prize in the 1996 International Piano Duo Competitions in both Tokyo and Munich.

They are, in fact, the only piano duo in the world to win all of the major piano duo competitions.
