Rotary helps Paarl Hospital

[ Top ]

wrota13PAARL HOSPITAL will soon receive computer equipment to make it part of a tele-medicine programme in pediatrics. The computer technology overcomes time and distance in patient diagnosis.

If a child is seriously injured and brought to the Paarl hospital, he or she needs not be taken by ambulance to Cape Town

until it is clear whether local doctors can attend to the injury with advice from specialists via the internet.

Apart from saving time and expense, tele-medicine also spares the child's loved ones the anguish of uncertainty while junior doctors in Paarl will have specialist assistance available at all times.

Barbara Clemmons, a Rotarian visiting South Africa from Seabrook, Texas, persuaded her club to contribute funds to the project.

Her husband Charlie, who was the Rotary District Governor for Texas, also gave additional money.

ASSISTANCE. Rotarians recently donated computer equipment to the pediatrics department of Paarl Hospital. When children are brought through the doors of the hospital casualty, life and death decisions can now be taken with the help of specialists at the Tygerberg Children's Hospital. A click of the computer's mouse will overcome the distance between the two hospitals. Standing (from left) are Charlie Clemmons (Rotarian from Seabrook, Texas), Dave Deacon (president of Paarl Rotary), Sister Letitia Koopman, Barbara Clemmons of Texas, and Aubrey Wilkinson (Assistant Governor of Rotary). In front are Lena Baron with her premature baby Elmien and Paarl Rotarian Robert Koch.

Then the Rotary District that includes the Western Cape also added funds and the final large contribution came from the Rotary Foundation, Rotary International's charity arm. Paarl Rotary is also involved and will continue to give IT assistance.

In total, R250 000 was raised. It will be used to link hospitals in the Western Cape, including Paarl, to the base station at Tygerberg Children's Hospital.

Haven Nagskuiling wil vlerke sprei

[ Top ]

Besoek die Haven in Ambagsvalleistraat, Huguenot, of skakel Nic of Bessie le Roux by 862-1812.

Die Haven se bankrekening by Nedbank Paarl (takkode 101910) is rekeningnommer 234679.

Prayers for hope in Boland

[ Top ]

BOLAND Transformation will take place at the Boland Rugby Stadium on 1 May and will incorporate Paarl, Wellington, Franschhoek and Malmesbury.

An estimated 6 to 8 million people will be praying for the continent of Africa. In the past the Day of Prayer was held on Freedom Day, 21 March, but because of the participation of other African countries, it was decided to use 1 May, an international holiday.

Anyone wishing to volunteer to assist in the organising of the prayer day (intercessors, logistics managers, fund raisers, etc) or any church which has as yet had no contact with the Transformation Committee should contact Juanita at 872-2421.
