Rupert in final CPO concert

[ Top ]

BERNHARD GUELLER, Hanneli Rupert and violinist Wolfgang David will bring the current season of CPO concerts to a close on Thursday 21 August at Artscape Opera at 20:00.

The CPO's RCA Red Seal CD featuring song cycles by Mahler and Wagner will be launched before the concert. Ms Rupert will sing one of the exquisitely beautiful songs from the CD, Um Mitternacht, one of the five Rückert-lieder at the start of the concert.

Hanneli Rupert has established herself as one of South Africa's most sought after mezzo-sopranos. A Lieder and oratorio performer of note she has performed in Denmark, Austria, Germany, Switzerland and South Africa.

Especially noted as an interpreter of the music of Gustav Mahler, Ms Rupert's latest CD gives the listener a glimpse into her unique interpretive ability.

Her voice has been described as containing a 'sense of mystery' and in these performances of the Mahler and Wagner songs Ms Rupert's amazing interpretive powers and the special reflective colour of her voice comes to the fore.

The concert will be followed by a reception in the Opera Bar. Tickets from Computicket and, if available, at the door.

The CD is available from most CD outlets as well as from the Friends of Orchestral Music shop on concert nights (419-9809).

PETE gets chosen for the under eighteen Protea cricket team, but due to circumstances, he is unable to contribute the required amount of money for the tour to Australia.

His friends decide to help out and raise the money he needs.

Follow the get-rich-quick-schemes of some of the schoolfriends who show that with a little planning and a lot of confusion, a friend in need still proves to be a friend indeed.

This is the theme of "The Play: You're Upstaging My Cue", a drama which will be performed in the Paarl Boys' High school hall on 26, 27 and 28 August.

The play is written by Henri Kriel and directed by Wiwe Ras-Pretorius.

They recently visited the Logan Play Festival and received gold for the production, the actors, the directing, the judges trophy for the best contribution to the festival and a cash prize for the best new written script.
