Christmas joy from Germany

HUNDREDS of children in Paarl had something to smile about this Christmas when they received toys donated in a major German charity effort.

The toys, collected in the "Toys For Africa" campaign initiated by Lydia Schrempp, wife of DaimlerChrysler AG chairman, Jürgen  Schrempp, in  Stuttgart, Germany, was distributed through  DaimlerChrysler South Africa's dealer network to children's homes and charities identified in co-operation with all nine provincial social welfare departments as being most in need.

At the first of several planned hand-over functions, hosted by Paarl Motors and Rola Motors, several boxes of toys were handed  to representatives of a number of Western Province children's homes and charity organisations.

One of the organisations that received a donation, was the Ikhwezi Community Centre.

The "Toys For Africa" initiative is a joint effort with, amongst others, DaimlerChrysler AG (DCAG), DaimlerChrysler South Africa (DCSA), the South African Junior German Chamber of Commerce, as well as DaimlerChrysler dealers.

Mrs Schrempp is a co-patron of the project with Public Service and Administration Minister, Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi, who has demonstrated commitment to the plight of children and underprivileged communities in the country.

"We believe this kind gesture from the people of Germany will make little children in especially the rural areas of Africa a little happier this Christmas," said Anne Clarke, DCSA Corporate Affairs Divisional Manager.

"Tthrough her contacts in Stuttgart, Mrs Schrempp asked the local community to donate toys to these children, and being a warm-hearted community, they responded far beyond expectations," Clarke said.

Jou baba, jou keuse

Die keuse lê egter steeds by u."

Sanra kan gekontak word by 872-5050.
