THERE is music and theatre for lovers of the arts at the Bastille Festival in Franschhoek this weekend. Visit South Africa's food and wine capital as it celebrates its French heritage.
Visit the food and wine marquee on Saturday, where Cape Town's only concert brass band will be playing between 13:00 and 16:00. The concert is free.
The musicians in this multi-cultural 30-piece band come from all walks of life including a wine maker, an attorney, a geologist, a brewer, an actuary and a cardiologist, and all get together to play a selection of marches, jazz, classical and contemporary pieces as well as popular musicals.
Local jazz band La Fromagerie will be playing on Sunday.
Piano concert
* Christopher Duigan, widely regarded as one of South Africa's leading concert pianists and the recipient of several of South Africa's most prestigious music awards will perform tomorrow at 18:30 in the Franschhoek Dutch Reformed Church, Huguenot Road.
He will be playing a celebratory programme of piano classics and popular solos by Chopin, Mozart and Liszt and more.
Tickets are R60 from Franschhoek Wine Valley Tourism Office and at the door.
* The Barnyard Theatre in Franschhoek will be celebrating the village's French roots with a production of "Jacques Brel - Rough Diamond on Saturday.

Jacques Brel's life was a great adventure; he lived intensely, following his feelings, his rebellions and his passions.
This musical theatre show sets out to present Jacques Brel's music, life and thoughts in a simple, minimalist, intimate way. The result is "a show of lyrical power and beauty".
Hosted by Franschhoek Wine Valley & Tourist Association, tickets are R150 each and include a traditional French country meal and a selection of Woolworths cheeses. Franschhoek wines are available from the bar.
