LOCAL matrics once again excelled in the senior certificate examination with a total of 179 students achieving A-aggregates (see pics on p 16 and 17).
Paarl also produced three students among the top 20 in the Western Cape. They are Adriaan Basson of Paarl Boys' High (7th position), Jocelyn Hellig of La Rochelle (10th position) and Charl de Villiers also of BHS (16th position).
This year's 179 A students is a huge increase over last year's 103 matrics who achieved A aggregates.
Boys' High produced a total of 37 matrics with A aggregates this year out of 129 matrics.
La Rochelle has 15 A students, out of a class of 98.
Paarl Girls' High has 23 A's out of 79 matrics. Their top student was Jani Truter.
Both La Rochelle and Girls' High received a certificate from the Western Cape Department of Education for their excellent results over the past few years.
Paarl Gymnasium has 49 A students out of 217, with no failures.
Huguenot High produced 37 A students out of 170 matrics. Their top student was Dawid Botha.
Labori High boasts five A students out of 71 and Klein Nederburg High also has five distinctions out of 223 matrics.
Boland Agricultural High has four A's out of a class of 70 and no failures for the eighth consecutive year.
New Orleans has two A's out of 164 and Bridge House also produced two students with A aggregates.
The pass rate of other high schools in the area ranged from 100% at Franschhoek High to 85% at Groendal, 85,3% at Berg River Secondary, 81,6% at Charleston Hill Secondary, 74,6% at Paulus Joubert, 72,3% at Weltevrede to Noorder Paarl Secondary's 63,3%.
At Desmond Tutu High in Mbekweni 117 matrics among 197 candidates were successful. |
