STELLENBOSCH and Cape Town will be the venues for a host of choral concerts with Norwegian, American and South African choirs, soloists and conductors linked to the International Choral Workshop McLachlan X taking place at the Endler Hall from 26 to 31 March.
The feast of concerts begins on Friday 26 March at the Endler Hall, when Kaare Hanken will conduct his Nordic Singers. Also in the line-up will be the KwaZulu Natal Youth Choir and the Free State Youth Symphony Orchestra.
On Saturday 27 March Louis van der Watt will conduct the Canticum Novum, the University of Stellenbosch Church Choir and orchestra, also at the Endler Hall. Still at that venue, Hanken will also conduct a performance by the Nordic Singers on Monday 29 March.
The final two concerts at the Endler Hall will be on Tuesday 30 March and Wednesday 31 March.
The Groote Kerk in Cape Town will be the venue for a performance on Sunday 28 March by a massed choir comprising the McLachlan Workshop Choir, the City of Tygerberg Choir and the New Apostolic Choir, conducted by Hanken.
The Nordic Singers will make a special appearance at this concert, and celebrated SA singers soprano Linda Bukhosini and tenor Bongani Tembe will also perform "The Lord's Prayer" by Malotte.
All concerts begin at 20:00 and tickets are R30 for the concert in the Groote Kerk and R60 (seniors and students R40) for the rest. Tickets will be available at the door. For more information, call Marcha Geyer, 083-207-3080. |
