KERSE BLAAS. Hierdie drie bestuurs- lede van Huis Vergenoegd in die Paarl het heel geesdrigtig geblaas aan hierdie verjaardagkoek van die tehuis wat vanjaar 30 oud is. Van links is Doreen Fleming, Thelma Oosthuizen en Ina Rens (voorsitter), wat van die begin op die bestuur was. Die ouetehuis is deur die ACVV ontwikkel op deel van die historiese plaas Pontac en het tans 219 inwoners, waarvan 42 verswak is.

Kuns by Boschenmeer

KUNS van top SA kunstenaars gaan van Vrydag 26 Maart tot Sondag 28 Maart by Boschenmeer buite die Paarl uitgestal word.

Onder die kunstenaars is Isabel le Roux, Derric van Rensburg, Pieter van der Westhuizen, Alexander Rose-Innes, Cecile van Heerden, Pat van der Merwe, Kobus Kotze, Amos Langdown en Johan Smit.

Daar sal ook juwele uit die Ooste en 'n verskeidenheid matte ten toon gestel word.

Die uitstalling is die Vrydag te sien van 10:00 tot 13:00 en die Saterdag en Sondag van 12:00 tot 17:00. Bordjies sal die roete aandui.

Picnic concert

THE Jack Meyer Art Centre and the Frank Pietersen Music Centre in Paarl are hosting a combined picnic concert at the art centre in Hospital Street tonight.

The gates will open at 18:15 and the public can bring blankets and picnic baskets.

Tickets at R10 (learners R5) available at the art centre (872-2095) or the music centre (872-3123/4).


Craft and hobby fair

A BIG hobbies, arts and crafts fair will be held in the Paarl town hall on 26 and 27 March under the auspices of the Rotary Club of Drakenstein.

Exhibitors will include Johann Pretorius, who will be demonstrating his hobby of wood carving at the fair.

The income will be used to fund Rotary's TB Project, Food Garden Project, Wheelchair Project and Operation Hunger Project.

There are still a few stands available for exhibitors. Preference will be given to applicants that will give animated demonstrations of their skills.

Skrywer praat

DIE bekende Afrikaanse skrywer George Weideman praat op Donderdag 25 Maart in die Wellington Museum oor sy eie skryfwerk.

Die geleentheid begin om 19:00 vir 19:30 en is deel van die jaarlikse gesamentlike leeskringbyeenkoms.

Almal is welkom (toegang R10). Bespreek teen 23 Maart by die Wellington Museum , 873-4710.


Host of concerts linked to workshop

STELLENBOSCH and Cape Town will be the venues for a host of choral concerts with Norwegian, American and South African choirs, soloists and conductors linked to the International Choral Workshop McLachlan X taking place at the Endler Hall from 26 to 31 March.

The feast of concerts begins on Friday 26 March at the Endler Hall, when Kaare Hanken will conduct his Nordic Singers.  Also in the line-up will be the KwaZulu Natal Youth Choir and the Free State Youth Symphony Orchestra.

On Saturday 27 March Louis van der Watt will conduct the Canticum Novum, the University of Stellenbosch Church Choir and orchestra, also at the Endler Hall. Still at that venue, Hanken will also conduct a performance by the Nordic Singers on Monday 29 March.

The final two concerts at the Endler Hall will be on Tuesday 30 March and Wednesday 31 March. 

The Groote Kerk in Cape Town will be the venue for a performance on Sunday 28 March by a massed choir comprising the McLachlan Workshop Choir, the City of Tygerberg Choir and the New Apostolic Choir, conducted by Hanken.

The Nordic Singers will make a special appearance at this concert, and celebrated SA  singers soprano Linda Bukhosini and tenor Bongani Tembe will also perform "The Lord's Prayer" by Malotte.

All concerts begin at 20:00 and tickets are R30 for the concert in the Groote Kerk and R60 (seniors and students R40) for the rest. Tickets will be available at the door. For more information, call Marcha Geyer, 083-207-3080.
