wabe18 THE executive chef of the Pontac Manor Hotel and Restaurant in Paarl, Abe Conradie (29), has departed for New York where he will spend a month adapting the menu of the Madiba's Restaurant in the Big Apple.

It is the only South African restaurant in New York.

Abe was approached by the owner of the restaurant, Natal-born Mike Henegan, to add his imagination and flair for innovative cooking to the menu.

According to Abe he will adapt the menu according to the availability of ingredients, but will ensure that there is an exotic South African flavour.

"A good sauce is the basis of a memorable dish, enhanced with suitable garnishing."

Abe trained at the Natal Technikon and started his career at Ralph's in Stellenbosch.

DIE Charis Outreach Ministries bied Sondag 'n dag van spesiale dienste in die Paarl aan met die tema "Shine Jesus, shine!" by die kerk op die hoek van Lackay- en Van den Bosstraat (agter Foodworld).

Die oggenddiens 09:00 sal deur past Lintoor Fortuin van die Christian Life Worship Centre in Kraaifontein gelei word.

Hy is voorsitter van die Covenant Christian Fellowship, 'n vereniging van onafhanklike gemeentes waarvan Charis lid is.

Past Walter Carolus van Revive Tabernacle International sal by die aanddiens om 18:00 optree.

Angeline Marais, wat pas haar tweede CD vrygestel het, sal optree.

Haar CD's sal ook te koop wees.

	Aids forum meets

THE Western Cape Networking Aids Community of South Africa (Nacosa) will be hosting its consultative regional forum meeting for the Winelands community on Friday 26 July at the Manyano Centre in Sanddrift Street, Paarl.

The theme will be "Mother to child transmission and anti-retroviral treatment". The meeting will start at 09:30.

Dr Saadiq Kariem (senior medical superintendent of Groote Schuur Hospital and chairperson of WC Nacosa) and Luann Hatane (director of WC Nacosa) will be the speakers.

WC Nacosa is committed to building organisational capacity within various sectors involved in HIV/Aids and creating awareness around topical issues.

Paarl is a national MTCT programme pilot site and with the controversy around Anti-Retroviral Treatment, WC Nacosa is hosting this meeting to provide the community with information.

DIE publiek kan elke Donderdag tussen 13:00 en 19:00 bloed skenk by die kliniek in die Paarl. Boland Kollege Paarl hou 'n kliniek in Pleinstraat op Vrydag 26 Julie van 10:00 tot 11:30.

Wellingtonners kan in die saal van die Moederkerk in Kerkstraat bloed skenk op 7 Augustus en 11 September, van 16:00 tot 19:00.

Die studente van die Wellington kampus van die Kaapse Technikon gaan in die Coaton-saal skenk op 12 Augustus van 09:30 tot 13:30.
