THE efforts of a great sports lover and teacher were recently recognized when Eric Adams of Paarl received a lifetime achievement award from the Western Cape Department of Sport.
Adams has been engaged in sports administration for more than 40 years. He will however also be remembered as a outstanding cricketer, playing for the Foresters Cricket Club as well as Paarl Cricket Union in the 1960s and '70s.
He was also closely involved with rugby as well as serving as match-and-registration secretary of the Paarl Rugby Union for ten years. At the same time he was also secretary of the Paarl Cricket Union.
From club level to national level, beginning with the Foresters CC and Gardens Rugby Club, Adams has always been actively engaged in sports administration - doing service with the Western Province Rugby League, Western Province Cricket Board and the SA Athletics Board. Adams has previously headed the Boland Amateur Athletics Association and was vice-president of the South African Amateur Athletics Board.
He was also a member of the delegation that negotiated a new dispensation with the National Olympic Committee for all South Africans.
He is also a past chairman and honourary member of the Boland High Schools Sports Association (Ussasa).
Among others, Adams has received awards for his contribution in the field of education and sport from the Rotary Club of Drakenstein and Charleston Hill Secondary School.
He is currently the general secretary of Boland Athletics and is known in Paarl as an outstanding mathematics tutor. |
