Agter van links is Ernie Leicht van Niel Joubert Wyne (beste Chardonnay), Bennie Wannenburg van Wamakersvallei (beste Merlot), Altus Joubert, bestuurder van Boland (beste Chenin Blanc, beste droë wit tafelwyn en beste soet wit tafelwyn), Nicolaas Rust van Seidelberg (beste Shiraz, beste Cabernet Sauvignon, beste Pinotage en beste Rooi Tafelwyn), Kobie Viljoen van Landskroon (beste nie-muskaat versterkte wyn) en Kobus Theron van Simonsvlei (beste Sauvignon Blanc). Voor is Boland wynmakers Jurgen Siebritz, Jurie Germishuys, Bernard Smuts en Naudé Bruwer. Perdeberg se Semillon het 'n trofee losgeslaan vir die beste houtbeleë witwyn. Die nasionale trofeewenners word môreaand by die SA Nasionale Wynskou aangekondig.


Prime properties up for grabs

TWO prime properties in Paarl come under the hammer this month. 

According to Jonathan Smiedt of ClareMart Auctioneers, both these properties are prime investment opportunities for potential buyers.

One of Paarl's most prestigious residential properties is going under the hammer this month. Situated on the slopes of the Paarl mountains, this four bedroomed home has spectacular views of the town and surrounds.

Landbousensus kom

"DIT is hoog tyd dat die ware stand van die landbou in Suid-Afrika akkuraat bepaal word," aldus Suid-Afrika se Statistikus-generaal, Pali Lehohla, gesê terwyl die mees omvattende Landbousensus in die land van stapel gestuur word.

Sedert die vorige Landbousensus, nege jaar gelede, het die totale landbouprentjie drasties verander. Opnames op 'n beperkte skaal kan nie gebruik word as plaasvervanger om al die sowat 60 000 kommersiële boere in die land te bereik nie.

Slegs boere wat vir BTW by die SAID geregistreer is, sal deur die Landbousensus deur die pos genader word. Die vraelyste behoort boere teen die einde van Augustus te bereik.

Inflation targets

SOUTH AFRICANS will have to take the SA Reserve Bank's inflation targets of between 3% and 6% much more seriously to ultimately enjoy lower inflation and interest rates. 

This means that everything possible should be done to keep salaries, wage and price increases to a maximum level of 6%.

This is the view of prof Andrie Schoombee, course leader at the Bureau for Economic Research (BER) and chairman of the Department of Economics at the University of Stellenbosch, who is presenting a course in practical economics on 5 and 6 September in Stellenbosch for persons with no formal education in economics.

The course deals with economic concepts and how economic performance is measured, fiscal policy, inflation, inflation targeting, interest rates.
