THE first round of the High Schools' Environmental Quiz for Grade 8 to 11 pupils was held in Cape Town by the Fairest Cape Association on 21 August with another round due on 4 September, with the finals on 18 September. Last year's winner was Huguenot High.

Prizes include a R7 500 bursary to the winning school, a R5 000 bursary to the school placed second and a R2 500 bursary to the school placed third as well as an environmental excursion for the top 12 pupils and their teachers.

The competition takes place over two rounds. The scores are then added together and the top six schools progress through to the finals.

The quiz is a multiple choice written competition, with questions are based on information supplied in the Wise Up on Waste' booklet, the State of the Environment Report and the Integrated Metropolitan Environmental Policy (IMEP) document.
