Hupstoot vir bou-opleiding

[ Top ]

THE popular Nederburg pre-auction wine tasting for the public taking place in Cape Town on Monday gives winelovers a preview of some of the magnificent wines on offer at the 31st Nederburg Auction this year.

This enables them to select which wines they can ask their local bottle store, wine shop owners or supermarket wine buyers to purchase on their behalf, as only licensees may bid on Auction day, 9 April.

The tasting will be conducted by wine consultant Dave Hughes at the Holiday Inn, Strand Street, Cape Town from 18:30 for 19:00.

Tickets cost R75 per person. This includes sparkling wine on arrival and light snacks afterwards.

Bookings can be made through Computicket or by visiting the website www.computicket.com.

Trees under the hammer

[ Top ]

THE auction of a wide variety of indigenous trees will form part of a rare auction opportunity when a farm on the Berg River and a separate lot of trees in growth bags go on auction on Friday at 12:00 in 'Lowanee', Lady Roch Road, Wellington (across Lady Loch Bridge).

The five-hectare plot near the Berg River in Wellington boasts a 150 year-old original three-bedroomed homestead and a large tree nursery of exotic and indigenous trees.

"Tree auctions, particularly in this country, are few and far between. Overseas, these auctions are usually paired to tree festivals, such as the annual Bennington Museum's Festival of Trees Grand Finale Gala in the UK which includes a silent tree auction," so says ClareMart Managing Director of the ClareMart Auction Group, Andrew Koch.

"In South Africa such an event is even less frequent with the sale being one of the more unique auction opportunities seen for a long time."

Surrounded by panoramic views and with its own adequate water supply, the farm and nursery offers country-style living combined with a going-business opportunity. Though it is original in style, the farmstead has been completely refurbished and provides for a comfortable and elegant "gentleman's residence", with pool and separate flatlet.
