Icons at Barnyard

[ Top ]

IN South Africa, there are two names inextricably linked in people's minds with that of guitar playing and we're not talking average guitar players here, we're talking exceptional.

In the 22 years that have gone by since Steve Newman and Tony Cox first began playing together, they have become legends and national icons of the instrument in their own right.

On Saturday 24 April these two are at the Barnyard Theatre in Groot Drakenstein with their show "100% Guitar Player".

Each has pursued highly successful performance and recording careers with a string of nominations and awards along the way for both; Steve Newman for the music he created with his band Tananas, now on a performing circuit that is world-wide and are acclaimed as one of South Africa's super-groups and Tony Cox for best instrumental album at the 2001 and 2003 South African Music Awards.

The Cox/Newman album "About Time" received two nominations for best duo and best instrumental at the same 2003 awards.

If guitar playing is your passion or if you just want to experience the beauty of two great South African guitarists in full flight, do not miss this show.

"The Cox and Newman phenomenon transcends the realm of structured acoustics in every sense; so much so that you begin to question whether the inventor of the guitar ever truly knew the extent of his creation" - John Harvey, The Herald.

Book at 874-1505 or E-mail: theatre@bridgehouse.org.za. Tickets are R70 per person. Doors open at 18:30 and the show starts at 20:00.
