Famous names at fashion cabaret

[ Top ]

FAMOUS names like Anneline Kriel will take a nostalgic trip down memory lane at the revamped Nederburg Wine Auction which celebrates its 30th birthday this year.

A celebrity-studded, interactive fashion cabaret will be staged in Paarl on April 3 including celebs like Kriel and other former beauty queens as well as former supermodels Tanya Fourie and Josie Borain and celebrities including Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Joost van der Westhuizen and his wife Amore Vittone.

The fashion event and exhibition of fashion, décor and beauty will be repeated for the public on Sunday 4 April at Nederburg.

Tickets will be sold in aid of the South African Organ Donor Foundation at R350 each. Call 0800-226-611 for further details.

The event that plans to transform fashion into performance art has been conceived and choreographed by producer/director supremo Jan Malan, the man who launched the Face of Africa in the late 1990s and who has since gone on to work in New York and Europe.

Malan is planning what he terms a "fashion experience" in a surprise venue at Nederburg to entertain the strictly by-invitation-only guest list of local and international wine aficionados and high profile personalities attending the glittering post-harvest fixture on the wine and social calendar.

The cabaret will trace the 30 years of style and trends in South Africa from 1975, when Nederburg hosted the country's first wine auction to 2004, highlighting fashion as a social barometer.

He will feature cabaret artists, professional models, "real people", as well as celebrities and other well-known personalities linked with major events in South Africa over the past three decades. Designers will include fresh young names, established and veteran talent.

"Fashion becomes really exciting when it enters the realm of performance art," he says.

"Although the event will have a very strong contemporary component, it will also have a very strong nostalgic feel, as you would expect from a retrospective."

His innovative presentations have charmed audiences from the best-travelled fashionistas who have seen it all to those with a passing interest in couture and design.

Unieke kaasbelewenis by fees

[ Top ]
