INSPECTORS from the Department of Labour will be conducting an inspection blitz in Paarl.
They will assess compliance with provisions of the Sectoral Determination for the Domestic Worker Sector (including the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act relating to workplaces) and the provisions of the Unemployment Insurance Act relating to Domestic Workers.
The blitz will take place from Monday 23 August to Friday 27 August in Denneburg, De Zoete Inval, Courtrai, De Oude Renbaan, Klein Parys, Bloomsbury, Groenvlei, Noorder Paarl, New Orleans and Central Paarl.
Siyanda Zondeki, provincial executive manager of the Department of Labour Western Cape, said the campaign will focus on the compliance of the provisions of the Sectoral Determination no 7, which regulates minimum conditions of employment and wages for domestic workers.
They will also look at the provisions of the Unemployment Insurance Act which applies to domestic workers who work for more than 24 hours per month for an employer.
The inspection will entail the completion of the prescribed checklist by inspectors and the scrutiny of the necessary documents, such as a copy of the Sectoral Determination, particulars of employment and payslips that must be kept by employers in terms of the Sectoral Determination.
An advocacy campaign in order to create awareness and to advise employers of the impending inspections, ends today.
The inspection blitz will be co-ordinated by Ivan Polson, Vincent Domingo and Tony Rudman of the Cape Town provincial office of the Department of Labour. They can be contacted on 421-0802 for any further details.
You can also contact the Paarl office (tel 872-2020) for details of the requirements prescribed by the relevant legislation. |
