Binnelandse Sake trek

* The Department of Home Affairs' regional office in Paarl will be moving to the corner of Berg River Boulevard and Castle Street from Monday. The contact numbers remain the same.

Cutbacks at factory

THE Paarl company Berg River Textiles, like many other textile businesses, has been hard hit by cheap imports of clothing, and staff cutbacks are now on the cards.

Walter Simeoni, MD of the Frame Group, this week confirmed that Berg River Textiles is to undergo restructuring in the light of the economic climate, to ensure that the plant is streamlined and "more cost competitive than it is at present".

"Berg River Textiles will remain open, but the weaving department will close down. That will ensure that the rest of the business will be strong enough to continue," he told Paarl Post.

Simeoni was unable to indicate how many people could lose their jobs, as negotiations with trade unions are still continuing.
