THE Franschhoek Belgian Development Trust will be training approximately 700 people in the hospitality and catering industry over the next two to three years. A number of courses will be presented over the summer months covering waitressing, housekeeping, hospitality workers and special courses in basic kitchen technique at the town's Job Centre. A further waitressing and housekeeping course will start on 21 October with places for 15 applicants in either of these courses. Applications can be made to the Job Centre. This year to date over 100 people have been trained in four courses run namely housekeeping, waitressing, hospitality and basic kitchen skills. Eight students wrote the ICDL (International Computer Driver's Licence) examinations on 13 September at the IT centre. The pass mark is 80% and 14 passes were achieved in three subjects written. By end of November the students will have rewritten the subjects failed. The Boland College with their satellite campus at the IT Centre is offering courses for the year 2003 and matriculants are invited to apply. A certain number of scholarships and bursaries are still available. Enquiries should be directed to the head, Mr Gerber, at 876-2878. A sponsorship has been obtained to fund the teaching of English to high school pupils as well as adults. This can also be arranged through the IT Centre. With onset of summer greater use is being made of the car wash facility at the IT Centre. Unemployed people not already registered with the Job Centre should contact Mrs P Gordon on 082-558-8942. |

Navrae by Angelica van der Merwe 808-8255. THE restructuring proposals for the KWV Group were tabled at the annual general meeting in Paarl yesterday morning. The members of KWV Co-operative had informally approved the restructuring of the KWV group last month. If the proposal is carried, the same proposal will be tabled for final approval at a special member's meeting of KWV Co-operative on Tuesday. The members of KWV Co-operative must agree with the Board that the division of KWV into a company and a co-operative, each able to play its independent role with credibility is the right move for the future of the South African wine industry, producers and shareholders. KWV announced the proposed restructuring in June this year and has since consulted widely with shareholders and members to finalise the proposal. Said Lourens Jonker, chairman, at the meeting, "KWV has had an excellent year, and increases in the share price to date indicate that the proposal represents the best plan to restructure KWV with a view to future success and survival." |
