Zauberflote at New York's world-renowned Metropolitan Opera.
A feature of Angela Gilbert's forthcoming Franschhoek appearance will be her lively and informal presentation style, combining world-class singing with a rare and engaging stage presence.
Joining the soprano at the piano will be her long-time musical partner Christopher Duigan.
A prize-winning artist in his own right, Duigan counts the Adolph Hallis and Unisa Awards amongst his own.
As a soloist he has played extensively in South Africa and the UK and last season received rapturous acclaim for his performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No 2 at sold-out concerts with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.
Their recital will include Angela Gilbert's debut performance of Mozart's two notoriously difficult Queen of the Night arias.
They will also perform a selection of songs and arias by Puccini, Verdi and Rachmaninoff, as well as piano solos by Handel and Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.
Gilbert and Duigan are noted for the special platform chemistry of their joint appearance. They create a sense of personal encounter with their audiences, lacing their music making with informal dialogue and amusing anecdotes to enliven the repertoire they perform.
Tickets at R60 and can be reserved at Franschhoek Wine Valley Tourism Office on 876-3603. |
