ARTISTS from all over have an opportunity to participate in an art exhibition from 12 to 24 September entitled "The Glories of Bain's Kloof".
It will be part of the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the completion of the Bain's Kloof Pass, a national monument, in September 1853 in Wellington.
Artists are invited to submit paintings, drawings, photographic prints or etchings for this exhibition.
In interpreting the theme "The Glories of Bain's Kloof", a liberal interpretation of related concepts, which may reflect the landscape, mountains, flora, fauna, geology and history of the area between the two entrances of the Pass (Darling Bridge to Antoniesvlei) are suggested.
The venue will be the Wellington Museum. Artists submitting works are not confined to residents of the Berg River Valley only.
Commission charges on sales (works may be sold) will be 20% and a nominal charge to cover expenses of R10 per submission will be levied.
Works should be mounted or framed and be within the size range A4 (210 x 300m) to A1 (600 x 840mm), with framed pictures ready for hanging (with two fish-eye screws in the back).
Each artist is allowed to submit up to six works.
A panel of independent art evaluators will select the works for display. Only art works displaying real artistry and reflecting an identifiable feature or characteristic of Bain's Kloof and its environs will be selected for display.
For practical reasons scholars up to and including Grade 12 are excluded, but all adults, college and university students are more than welcome to participate.
Enquiries to Leigh-Anne Wolfaardt (873-5978/082-963-9153) and Trevor Cleevely (072-728-0184).
Prospective exhibitors should complete an application form as early as possible, obtainable for the Wellington Tourism Bureau (873-4604), to assist with planning this event, particularly in the light of the limits on available hanging space.
Forms must be posted to 3 Cillié Street, Wellington 7655 or handed in at the Tourism Bureau. |
