Feesgangers trotseer hewige reënbuie

Annalize Duvenhage

Rock me Amadeus

[ Top ]

PAARL is going to rock to the sound of Amadeus in the Grande Roche Amphitheatre on Sunday evening.

And it is all for the Paarl Boys' High School Music Department to support music tuition and to purchase instruments for the school orchestra.

The last few years have seen less and less money being made available by the State for music education in our schools and these funds have now all but dried up.

To compound the problem, the authorities have also reclaimed musical instruments from school orchestras that were on loan over many years from the SANDF, leaving school orchestras depleted.

The members of school orchestras come from all walks of life, including underprivileged townships, and there are very few parents who can afford the cost of a musical instrument such as a clarinet (R10 000), trombone (R20 000) or tuba (R30 000).

So, support the school orchestra while listening to Duck Chowles and his star-studded cast of nine professional musicians performing their acclaimed musical show "Rock me Amadeus" under a moonlit sky in spectacular surroundings.

Following the tremendous success of the Opera Pops last year, the second Grande Roche Musical Experience will be bigger and better with a delectable finger supper and quality wines provided as part of the evening's super entertainment package.

"Rock me Amadeus" is currently playing to packed audiences throughout South Africa.

Now Paarl has a unique opportunity to experience this rollicking, fun-filled trip to the world of rock 'n roll music through the eyes of the eccentric Wolfgang "Amadeus" Mozart.

The two-hour musical is filled with popular hits from Queen, the Monkeys, Shania Twain and many more, as well as rocked-up classics favourites.

It has audiences rocking in the aisles and stomping their feet to the infectious beat of an energy-charged musical script.

The cast consists of professional musicians who enjoyed top billing at recent events such as the opening of the Cape Town International Convention Centre and the National Woman of the Year Award Ceremony.

Tickets are selling fast at R130 (Eunice or Elma at 863-0397 or 082-808-1114). Bring along your cushions and something warm in case of a chill in the air.

Advent carol service

[ Top ]

ON Sunday 9 November at 17:00, Bridge House School and the New Apostolic Church will be holding their second joint Carol Service.

This joyous event will be held in the Barnyard Theatre at Bridge House, with the participation of Hospice. What makes this event even more special is that this will be the first time that the music pupils involved in the Bridge House Theatre Music project will be performing.

This project was started in July of this year after the New Apostolic Church approached the school about the need for tuition for children who do not have access to individual music tuition.

The group has grown to 28 and these pupils are currently receiving recorder and flute tuition in the music rooms in the Barnyard from Adell le Roux, one of the Bridge House Music teachers.

They hope to add a string section to the project at the beginning of next year.

Choirs from the church and the Bridge House Born to Sing group will be performing some carols and everyone present will also sing a carol or two to get into the Christmas spirit.
