Who are
we?
The Paarl Post started as a
community newspaper back in 1905 in Paarl.
Although Paarl Post always was in printing, we upped the game in the
nineties by investing in a state of the art printing plant. In 1995 we
became a subsidiary of Media 24. |

Today the Paarl Post newspaper is still part of our
business and has grown to the community newspaper with the second largest paid
circulation countrywide.
What we can do for you
Paarl Post is a dynamic client service orientated company that strives to be the
best cold-set printer in the country. We believe that we are the leaders in the
Coldset Printing Industry and provide the best quality printing and client
service available.

We specialise in low to medium volume newspaper and high volume pamphlet
printing. Our turn-around time and job scheduling is flexible and allows for
jobs to be accepted, printed and distributed in reasonable time. Our printing
plant is open 24 hours 7 days a week and our pre-press department is open 24
hours 5 days a week to receive files from customers. Our management team will be
available 24 hours 7 days a week to provide support.
We WILL get your job done in time and with good quality EVERY time.
What is Coldset printing?
Coldset printing is a Web-fed Litho Offset process using an oil based ink where
drying is effected by mere penetration in the paper. The penetration process is
carried out in a split second and the ink is not dried through heating as in
heat-set printing.
What makes Paarl Post printing special?
Having been a contracted and retail printer all these years has shaped our
business culture and quality standards making us specialists. We understand the
production needs of the Publisher/Ad agency. We know that the job does not only
comprise of the printing and therefore we take ownership and responsibility of
the production process from pre-press to the distribution requirements of our
clients.
Our people have a professional and retail mindset and treat our customers as
they should be treated. You will know exactly what to expect and will certainly
not get nasty surprises along the way. We try to make printing a personal
experience and our clients have complete peace of mind when it comes to printing
at Paarl Post.
Investment in technology is crucial
Our investment in print technology really sets us apart from the other players
in the printing market. We are one of a few newspaper plants that have a
Computer to Plate system that allows us to work with first generation plates
for best quality. We have invested in an automatic Registration Control and
Cut-Off Control system for improved control over registration and page
alignment. Lastly we have recently implemented software that automatically
adjusts the colour composition of the digital files to assure maximum image
quality set according to our machine profiles.
Our
products
Our work is split between Newspaper printing on the one hand and Pamphlets or
Leaflets on the other hand.
Paper
Regular newsprint (48,8 gsm)
Super 60 (60 gsm)
Thicker and brighter than newsprint
Constat 70 (70gsm)
White bond paper (pricy but high quality) By special request we can print on
other paper. We cannot print on glossy paper or paper thicker than 70 gsm.
Our sizes are the following:
Broadsheet - Trim 565 x 410
Tabloid - Trim 410 x 280
Qfold (A4) - Trim 270 x 200
We do general finishing such as trimming, folding, decollating, inserting and
packaging. This is done by an outsourced BEE company by hand under our roof.
We can also add a stitched, glossy cover to the coldest text pages but this is
not really our core business. We do have clients for whom we have been providing
this added service for many years, but the printing of the covers and stitching
is outsourced to other specialist companies with whom we have longstanding
relationships.
Our clients
We print about 50 newspaper titles (weeklies and monthlies). This includes
newspapers like the District Mail, EikestadNuus, Worcester Standard, Weslander,
Hermanus Times, Swartlander etc. We print a variety of independent newspapers,
mostly based in the Western Cape, but also from all other parts of the country.
We print retail pamphlets for most of the leading food and merchandise chain
stores in South Africa and Namibia. These comprise 2 16 page leaflets that we
print in very large quantities on mostly Newsprint and Super 60.
We handle the transport and distribution for most of our clients. We have good
and longstanding relationships with our suppliers and we drive our business to
keep up with the needs of our clients.
